P: Photoshop Action: 'Set current adjustment layer' does not apply to Levels and Curves

Community Beginner ,
Jul 24, 2025 Jul 24, 2025

Adobe Photoshop Version: 26.8.1 20250624.r.8 5e0d05d x64

Operating System: Windows 10 64-bit, Version 10 10.0.19045.5965

Steps to reproduce:

- Record an action that creates an adjustment layer (Levels or Curves) and set it to non-default values.

- Run the action. The recorded values are not applied.

Expected result: Photoshop should apply the values I recorded in the action

Actual result: Photoshop does not apply the values I recorded in the action. The resulting adjustment layer stays at its default values.

Additional information:

- This behavior works as expected on the earliest version of Photoshop I could test, which was Adobe Photoshop Version: 22.2.0 20210202.r.183 2021/02/02: a176e5849fa x64.

- I am unable to upload a sample action as an attachment as it isn't allowed.

- The 'Set current adjustment layer' step seems to work as expected for other adjustment layers, such as Exposure.

When recording Actions in PS, it doesn't capture all the steps properly. I use the place command to import an image onto the canvas, then I move the image where it should be with the mouse. The move does not get captured... You have to move the object at least twice before it is registered

Hm I tested it and see what you mean. It seems that it might not record every single move until it decides you're "done" moving. For example you can move it several times with the mouse, but won't record the movement, but then if I click anywhere outisde of the Photoshop window (such as on the Windows taskbar), it will then register the movement to where it is now.

Clicking the stop record button also makes it register. As does clicking another tool in the toolbar.

Not sure what other things might trigger it. It seems like it finalizes/records the movement if you begin a new event that it would record, like starting a transform. But also in certain other instances like I mentioned above.

What is the Color Mode of your document/image your running the action on?

(Image>Mode)

There is a bug in recent Photoshop versions where the action you speak of doesn't work on images in Grayscale or Lab color modes.

Yes, I am trying to do this in documents using grayscale color space, and can confirm it works fine in RGB. For the mean time I am using an older Photoshop which functions correctly. Thanks.
