P: Program error when trying to use clone stamp tool

Problem started 2 days ago. Only when attempting to use the Clone Stamp tool. Other tools seem OK. I re-installed Photoshop and reset the tool. No benefit. No changes to hardware or software on PC. Error text "Could not complete your request because of a program error". Also cannot dismiss error message. Have to press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager to close Photoshop.

More info:
-I originally experienced this problem on a PSD file. I can duplicate it
on a JPEG file. It also occurs if I create a blank file from scratch.
-Once it occurs the error message keeps popping back up after I click the
okay button. The learn how to fix button will take me to a browser but the
error message is still there when I return to Photoshop.

Hi all,

Sorry for the program errors you're seeing and it's good to hear rolling back is solving it for you. We'd love to fix this if we can reproduce it, but so far am having trouble getting the error to surface here.

Steps to reproduce I'm aware of:

• Click Clone stamp, try to sample and clone
• Open Liquify and push pixels with Forward Warp tool
• Use healing brush on image

So far none of these have reproduced a program error for me on my Windows 10 systems using Photoshop 23.4.1. Curious if there are any other steps that could be provided to help reproduce this one?

Using Win 11 Home up to date at 4 July 2022, Graphics card AMD Radeon RX66700XT drivers up to date at 4 July 2022.

Attempt to use Clone stamp or Healing brush produces error message -Could not complete your request because of a program error-

Reverting to Ps 23.3.2 fixes the problem, re- installing Ps 23.4.1 brings the problem back again..

Can confirm.  I'm seeing the same behavior in 23.4.1, and when I roll back to 23.3.2, it's back to normal.  Updating again to 23.4.1 brings the issue back.

Since I updated to 23.4.1 I can't use the clone stamp tool. When I alt-click to pickup material the program crashes (exits instantly), even on a brand new document with just a background.

I tried all the classic solutions, reboot, delete prefernces, and so on, to no avail. 

I'm running on an iMac on Catalina with GPU acceleration disabled.

I am also having trouble with the clone tool as well as the brush tool which doesn't respond to the shortcut. It keeps jumping back to the clone tool and requires a few steps back and forth to get it to stick.

So I rolled back to version 23.3.2.   The clone stamp works fine.   Now Photoshop freezes when I click the crop tool.  The only solution is to stop it in Task Manager.  So far I've only tried Canon CR3 files.  Thoughts?

Thanks for reaching out. We're sorry to hear about your program error while using the Clone Stamp tool in Photoshop.

Could you please share the version of Photoshop (Help > About Photoshop) and the version of Windows on your computer?

Are you seeing this issue after any recent update? Is it happening with only the Clone Stamp tool or other tools? 

Please go to Edit > Preferences > Performance section and uncheck the option "Use Graphics Processor." Restart your Adobe Photoshop and see whether it helps. If the issue persists, check out the other solutions.
Can you let us know the file type that you're experiencing this with? Do you see similar behavior with a new default Photoshop file?

Try to reset the tools followed by Photoshop preferences. 
Steps to reset the Tools and Preferences: To reset all the tools at once, right-click on the icon of whatever tool is currently selected in the Tool Options, select "Reset All Tools," and then click "OK." Using the Reset, All Tools option will reset all the tool selections in the Tools bar to their defaults.
You may try to reset Photoshop preferences back to defaults and check if that helps.

I've been seeing this same clone = crash issue on MPB with the M1 Pro chip since the 23.4.1 upgrade. I reverted back to 23.3.2 and the bug is gone. Will use this version until seeing a notification that this issue has been resolved.

Same thing happened on my end with using the Clone Stamp Tool. Uninstalling the 23.4.1 and reinstalling 23.3.2 worked.
