P: PS 26.9 Brightness Contrast Tool Window Will Not Stay Where Moved

My Brigtness / Contrast tool window pops up DEAD CENTER every time I open it so it's right over the image.  I move it off to the side off the image but it doesn't stay put. Next time I open it it's right back at dead center.  Every other tool window in PS stays wherever I move it. Why won't this window stay put?

Photoshop 26.8.1
Brightness/Contrast not previewing;
can see it changing after I click & as image closes;
also, Brightness/Contrast box only appears center of screen over image,
not in lower right corner where I drag it to be out of image's way;
tried Preferences > General > Reset Preferences on Quit, didn't resolve;
please advise, thanks in advance

Hi @Jeffrey Greenberg, thank you for reaching out! Thanks for sharing more information about the issue. I tried replicating the problem, but it works fine on my machine.

Could you please share more information, such as your system configuration (from Help> System info> Copy and paste it into a text file and attach it to our response)? Does this issue occur with all supported image formats or just certain ones? Also, relevant screen recordings or screenshots of the problem would be very helpful.

In the meantime, you can try these fixes:

1) Try disabling GPU compositing: Go to Edit > Preferences, then Performance. Click on Advanced Settings and uncheck the GPU Compositing option.

2) Turn off Multithreaded Compositing: From the Performance panel in the Preferences, uncheck Multithreaded Compositing.

3) Turn off the GPU itself: In the same Performance panel of Preferences, uncheck "Use Graphics Processor".

Let us know how it goes!

Cheers!

It's very annoying that this window always pops up in the middle of the screen, i have to manually drag it everytime to see how it affects my work.

Also please remove the "use legacy" option from below, it's unnecesary and it breaks the option to move from brightness to contrast pressing tab (which I used a lot and was super practical)

Thanks for the reports! The issue appeared in PS Beta, and it remains in Photoshop v26.9. The current version of Photoshop Beta 26.10 (m.3166) works as expected. Please feel free to try & report back.

Best,

Bightness/Contrast is not a Tool but an Adjustment.

Are you talking about a Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layer or applying the Adjustment destructively?

For the latter case I can reproduce the issue – which might indicate that it’s an intended behaviour but as the Curves and Hue/Saturation modal windows appear to maintain the last position it does seem like unexpected behaviour (at least).

Hey, @bkushner08106, welcome to the Photoshop Community. Thanks to @Ged_Traynor and @c.pfaffenbichler for the great suggestion and for helping speed this up.

I can verify the team has worked on this and the fix is available in Photoshop (beta). Please try Photoshop (beta) from the Creative Cloud desktop app > Beta Apps Section and check if the behavior exists.

Thanks!

@bkushner08106 try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset
