Hi everyone, when I try to use the Remove Tool I'm getting an error saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error."

I have tried a whole list of things already:

  • Updating my graphics card driver to the latest version
  • Uninstalling my GPU driver entirely and installing different older versions
  • Resetting all tools
  • Selecting the "More Stable" option in the Remove Tool Processing settings
  • Disabling "Generator" in the Plug-ins settings
  • Deleting all actions and brushes
  • Dis/enabling "Use Graphics Processor" in the Performance settings
  • Dis/enabling Multithreaded compositing in the Performance settings
  • Un/reinstalling Photoshop Version 24.5
  • Un/reinstalling Photoshop Version 24.6 (Beta)

These were all the things recommended to me by Adobe directly and from different communities and forums. I am now running the latest version 24.5 and I've run out of things to try.

My specs are the following:

  • Windows 11 Pro
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT Driver Date: 5/12/2023 Driver Version: 31.0.14057.2005
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core
  • Available Storage on SSD: 215 GB
  • RAM: 32 GB

Could anyone please try to help me out? I would highly appreciate it - thank you so much in advance! 🙂

Does anyone else get this?

Happens on the betas, removing preferences and reinstalling, latest updates.

The remove tool doesn't seem to work at all on Photoshop 24.5.

Anyone else see this?

Yeah, that particular error may be resolved by setting "image processing" to stable in prefs.

The problem I have is the tool doesn't even work at all! 😞

Despite the files being there in the system. I give up anyway as it seems the generative fill seems to do a good job when you type "remove".

The unfortunate thing moving forward with Photoshop is if more tools get fractured like this when it's not possible to use them.
