working on Catalina OS. saving file extension works now but does not save over jpg when saving it creates a copy which is annoying and time consuming to fix
Clif, Your response expresses your frustration in a way I find reasonable. A few years ago I had a friend who wrote some software to work on the Mac. I helped him debug it. He said working with Apple to make his software work with all of the Mac services you must use was a worse experience than getting divorced. This problem looks simple, but is it?
Clif, I'm only paying the $10.59 per month for the photography plan, so it's not like your yearly amount, but I expect some kind of response to this by Adobe as I think $127 a year is enough to reply to customers.
With all due respect, James, receiving a complaint is part of the job. I receive feedback in my job, I thought everyone did. And I move as quickly as possible or reply to all those comments as fast as possible because it's my job. Not everyone is being insulting, most people are here to say they have the same problem. As paying customers, I understand everyone's frustration which is only growing worse with Adobe's silence. Maybe some kind of acknowledgement that the issue is proving difficult to resolve, or they're not addressing it till x date. Some response is probably better than no response at this point.
The "As a Copy" gray out has been there since earlier versions of Photoshop. I am currently using older Photoshop v.20.0.10 and the export dialog looks exactly the same. The difference is it doesn't save out as a "copy.jpg" as the checked box indicated because I am on MacOS Mojave. I think Mojave (and earlier MacOS) missed that and Catalina fixed the issue so it follows Photoshop's "As a Copy" checkbox but unfortunately it disrupts the workflow.
What Adobe (and some users) fails to recognize is how damaging defects like these can be. You've cited a great example: professional liability. Because of (what should be) an easy-to-fix, years-old defect... you look like a bumbling ass for sending the wrong file. To make matters worse, you might later delete the correct one.
Agreed, at this point not sure if we could do something more than just complain here. My workflow has been extremely slow since this issue started. We are not talking about some specific functionality, this is a major and every day use function for most of us.
We should try to take this complain to any other level since clearly we are not been listened.
The only file format I've found so far that it doesn't do it to is pdf (I don't use all of the formats obviously).
james_gray - presumably, since this problem is definitely programmed in, because you no longer have the option to uncheck Save as Copy (as it's greyed out) I have to say that it does indeed seem to be as simple as just giving us back that option. If it was a bug, it would be a different story. It is NOT a bug.
Now, this morning i opened up 6 files i needed to resize. And i just did the normal way (out of automatism) and PS over saved the first 4 files, and then it got back to the annoying error. ... From very happy to sad again... C'on Adobe.
Just some jpg's, the same as the other 2... it's incredible. And i didn't do anything else. Maybe cause it were the first ones i did this morning, i got no clue...
There is an update to version 21.2.4 and it seems to have fixed this. Updated Photoshop this morning and did a test, worked fine. The "Save as Copy" box isn't greyed out anymore.
I guess I should have wrote that when I did a test, it didn't add a copy, it replaced as it asks. If you have the creative cloud app, you should see the update in there.
I just downloaded v21.2.4 on Catalina and tested with jpg and png and it seems the issue is finally resolved! Don't take my words for it, once you get v21.2.4 please report. If this works, it means that Adobe does in fact fixes bugs, but man oh man, after such long time...
Adobe's wonderful Creative Cloud doesn't push the update, you have to go to "updates" tab and then click on the three dots on the upper left THEN click "Check for updates"
I'm on mac Catalina 10.15.6 in Europe (Ireland) and after reading today's notifications from this forum I checked and there was 21.2.4 update in Adobe Cloud.
