P: Smart Object Accidental Rasterizing

With the latest Ps update (24.0 on MacOS 12.3.1) if you accidentally draw on a smart object, it brings up a warning dialog. That's a good thing. What's bad is that Escape will actually confirm the rasterization, as well as click the "Learn More" button, opening up the corresponding web page.

The new Rasterise to Edit Smart Object Warning Screen has very wrong behavior!

For example,  after clicking on the smart object layer with brush by accident the dialogue shows up and when you hit ESC (which in my opinion is the most common thing t do) it opens a browser window and in the meantime, it rasterizes the smart object without any warning. ESC could not be equal to OK? If you are not careful you could think that the layer is still smart object. And why the Browser opens also when I hit ESC? it should open when I click on Learn More?

This is very very wrong. Adobe, please get back to the previous behavior.

Hi,

Agreed, I have the same behaviour problem on PS 24 on win10.

Moreover, I also cannot use ESC button on an other error dialog box (if you try to use a brush without any layer selected) :

they both have in commun the "learn more" button, not sure if it's related tho

Hi there,

Still same issue on my PS 24.1.  I just updated.

on the screenshot, I tried to hit ESC when the dialog prompted and it opened my web browser with this link"https://www.adobe.com/404.html". Also the smart object was rasterized.

For this to work porperly, you have to hit the cancel button on the dialog.

No, it is not fixed.

Same behavior as before.

Hitting ESC rasterizes the Smart Object and opens the Browser Window.

ESC should be the same as Cancel.

The Browser should open only after clicking on "Learn More"

And could you please give us the Option to turn off this warning?

Please Fix this.

Still happening.

No clue why this was listed as fixed in 24.1.0's release when it was clearly not.

With the latest update that fixed the issue, the same problem began to occur with 'No pixels are selected." warning. To reproduce, add a new empty layer, ctrl-click its thumbnail and press Escape button when the warning window pops up.

Hi,

I upadted to 24.1.1 and it only resolved the rasterization issue. The ESC key doesn't work for the error dialog when there is no layer selected and you try to move or using a brush (and maybe other tools but I didn't test that).

On the other hand, I can close those dialog if I hit ENTER, but my muscle memory and hand placememnt usually tends to hit ESC first, which should close or cancel any dialog IMO.

Hello @olivierd42825091 , for warning messages without a Cancel button, Esc will not dismiss the dialog. In this case you can hit Enter on the OK button to dismiss it.

@ClaudiaR99 why doesn't it esc dismiss a window without a cancel button anymore though? It used to, for example the 'no pixles selected', that didn't have a cancel button in the 2022 version and esc cancelled it fine? Why was that feature removed? escape has worked for years and I push it automatically, seems stupid to make a change to something that worked perfectly well before.
