P: Symbol font not showing correct characters

Dear all -

Somehow I have lost the ability to use Symbol fonts in the Photoshop. The name "Symbol" is still in the drop-down menu, but all I get is squares instead of letters.

Operating system is Windows10, 64-bit if that helps.

Please advise,

MT

In photoshop 2022/2023/2024 go the Paragraph panel and from the flyout menu select Latin and East Asian Layout

Still a problem in OsX Sonoma 14.1 . It makes photoshop useless for scientific use.

I am having the same problem. Symbol font is gone so are many of the other fonts. All show up as squares.

The symbol font is the second most used font for us so this is big problem. Will try Glyph workaround but Adobe should fix this problem since seems has been around since October.

Running version 22.5.1 on a Mac

Issue:  A font i use and have notice other fonts that I have used in the past such as symbols and TASTEFUL for example are showing up as squares.  As though its a unicode issue or the characters don't exist.  But they do as I used them before and can currently  use them in Illistrator, After Effects etc.  I can even use it in photoshop if I select the Glyph tab and select Entire font to show all characters and they are there.  I then can double click the character and it shows up.  But if I type it shows square boxes.  It shows in the fiont drop down as well as square boxes but not under the Glyph and it can be pasted in.

This isn't a font that falls to the category of support being removed and again it works kind of in the app and in all other programs.  I have a laptop with the same v23 Photoshop and it works fine.  I even messed with the beta unicode feature under Win 10 Region but nothing.  This happened to me before but i can;t remember what fixed it since it never affected me until now.

I've even uninstalled cleaned my system with the cleaner tool and still nothing.

Do you have more than one font with the same name?

Thank you, the workaround works.

Not an ideal solution, obviously. Hopefully the bug will get fixed.

I've asked engineering to investigate as I can reproduce. There is a workaround. Open up the glyphs panel and you can select boxes of text and doubleclick the glyph in the Glyphs panel to populate it.
