P: Tool shortcuts resetting to default tool (E.g. L = selects freehand lasso instead of magnetic)

Photoshop CC 2015: I'm not sure how to explain this articulately, but bear with me:

I always have my (L) tool set to polygonal lasso, always my (C) tool set to slice selector. I press L or C, or whatever tool shortcut, and I get my last-used tool out of that variety (e.g. C = 1. Crop Tool, 2. Perspective crop tool, 3. Slice tool, 4. Slice select tool)

Since the last update, whenever I'm using a different tool and then press L/C on my keyboard, it will select the default (first in the line of) tool, instead of the one I was last using, so L selects the freehand lasso, or C selects the crop tool, meaning I have to manually select/shift+L to get back around to the tool I wanted.

Has the latest update removed the 'last-used' functionality? Is there any way to get around this?

Thanks.

Wow, kudos on moustache sculpting though. As Mr. Johnny Lee once said, "I was lookin' for love in all the wrong places..."

There are actually four different bugs that crept in here, all of which should be fixed soon.  So, whether it's your default tool, your last used tool, or if you quit the app and come back, the behavior will be consistent.
OK, I guess I'll ask you again, are any of these also responsible for Direct Select Tool NOT remembering Constrain Path Dragging?

I can't say definitively, but not very likely.  I didn't comment earlier because I'm unfamiliar with the bug you're talking about.  Have you posted the bug (including the steps and your system details) in a thread?  This would NOT be the right place for it...

Thanks,
David

I haven't but will. Wanted to see if it would be included in this thread's issues, it is after all about a tool's setting 'resetting' itself.

Thanks for getting on it though.

PS - where's Cox been?

This is a very frustrating bug(?) I use the heal tool a lot, I almost never use spot-heal. After working in heal with photoshop, closing the application and reopening it forces the tool back to spot heal. This means tapping the 'J' shortcut selects the wrong tool. Would it not be better to have the tool stay on the last mode that was selected by the user rather than default back every time like it used to do?

Thanks but I have to say that it was way too long dealing with this aggravation. Ridiculous and seemingly easy to fix.

This bug seems to be back in the new 2017.1 release
I never experienced it in 2015, but in 2017.1, every time I restart photoshop, the lasso tool reverts to freehand instead of polygon, and the healing brush reverts to spot healing.
Not the worst bug ever, but a little annoying when you're expecting one tool and get another.

Hi Alexander,

We're aware of the problem and working on a solution.  Based on our testing, the reset seems to happen after you choose the Move tool (V), so if you avoid that, you should also avoid the bug.  Not ideal, but perhaps helpful until we can get the fix to you.

Thanks,
David

Hey David, not sure if this is related, but the Constrain Path Dragging option is still toggling off after the Preferences window has been OK'd.

Steps to repro:
-select the Path Selection Tool
-activate Constrain Path Dragging
-go Pref/General, click OK

result: Constrain Path becomes de-activated.

Howdy Eartho,

That's a separate issue and I'm going to log a bug for it now.

Thanks,
