There is a problem with the processing of the Unsharp Mask filter in Photoshop ver. 2022.

I applied the USM filter to the attached usmtest.png with the settings shown in filter.png in ver.2021 and ver.2022.

You can see that there is noise in ver2022.

Preferences > performance
GPU: off
Multi-threaded compositing: off
Preferences > Technology Preview
Native canvas: off

I have tried all of the above with no improvement.

The Japanese forum post shown above reports that "results vary by PC".

Open usmtest.png in ver.2022 (23.3.2) and try
Amount: 300%.
Radius: 5.0 pixel
Threshold: 0 level
and apply the USM filter to enlarge the processed result. If noise appears, please let us know the configuration of your PC.

Noise appeared on iMac5K 2017 (Big Sur / 64GB memory / Radeon Pro 580 8GB memory).

It does not occur in Photoshop 2021/2020/2019.

@Yamonov – I can verify and reproduce that there are artifacts generated in 2022 that are not in 2021.

If you can make a new post marking this as a bug rather than a discussion I'll upvote.

@Stephen_A_Marsh, could you share your results or steps other than what was outlined by the original post? We have tested here on Mac and PC and don't see this corruption.

Thank you,

Yes i definitely see that on both windows 10 and macOS Monterey 12.3.1 with photoshop 2022 (ps ver 23.3.2)

I just opened the supplied usmtest.png and applied Filter>Sharpen>Unsharp Mask with the below settings as the op did.

I see this was fixed, but I prefer to remain in 23.3.1 for a while.

Is this a worry when you never sharpen more than 2px? (PC Win 10)
