Question

Photoshop generating huge files 100s of MB larger than expected. [Duplicate - locked]

PhotoShop 24.4.2 -

MacOS 11.6.7

When saving any small (100x100 pixel) flat document, it creates a huge 100+Mb file on disc. Weather it's a PSD, JPG  or PNG. Opening the file uses up my RAM and slows everything down. Just hitting save causes a 10 second beachball then more beachballing as it saves. If I drag it into another document, it corruptes that document too.

What would cause that?

Please do not duplicate post. It causes confusion and wastes time.

I'll lock this thread - original is here :https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop-ecosystem-bugs/photoshop-saving-a-100x100-pixel-flat-document-creates-a-huge-100mb-files-on-disc/idi-p/13137119

Hi

Can you try exporting the file using File > Export >Save for Web and make sure Metadata is set to none. If that results in a small file, then it is likely that your file is suffering from excessive metadata - possibly imported with other images used within a document.

See the thread below, which discusses the issue and scripts to remove it.
