Issue: Text layer in photoshop, after being converted to shape, switching from the Path Selection Tool to the Type Tool causes a crash

  • Photoshop version: 25.12.0 20240903.r.806 055f5e9 x64
  • OS: Windows 11 64-bit

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Create text layer
  2. Convert text layer to shape
  3. Switch to Path Selection Tool

Then select the converted text layer and keep repeating the steps below until a crash happens:

Press T to switch to the Type Tool > Press V to switch to the Move Tool > Press A to switch to the Path Selection Tool, highlight the shape > repeat

Expected result: No crash
Actual result: Crash

I've attched the PSD file I tested on + video of crash

Hey, @imAnoob079. Thanks for cooperating and providing the details. If you still see the issue, please submit the crash report with your Adobe ID from the crash dialog (Steps) and let me know once you do.

+1 to Ged. I cannot recreate this on two of my test machines, one of which uses 12400F and RTX 3070.

Few observations:
1 - Photoshop is installed on an F drive. Is this an internal or external drive? As a test, install Photoshop or Photoshop (beta) on the C drive.

2- In the short video you shared, you used a recovered PSD. It might have broken edges. If you're able, try & start with a fresh PSD and check if the issue exists.

Additionally, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Scratch disk, add your other drives to the available scratch spaces, and move the boot drive down if you have another drive that is faster and has more space.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!

Hello, thank you for responding, I've reset the preferences manually as you suggested, the same crash happened again
it seems I can't upload videos while replying, so I've attached a video of the crash here: https://streamable.com/w2aput

I kept switching from the Type Tool to the Move Tool

@imAnoob079 I tested the attached file and couldn't get it to crash my system using the steps you mentioned above, using Photoshop version 25.12 on Windows 11, I could perform the steps repeatedly over 10 times without a crash, maybe try manually resetting your Photoshop preferences

Remember to back up your settings before doing the preference reset
