P: Text tool Problem: A bunch of small text is all over my screen

So like usual, I made a text box to start typing but I don't know what happened because now there is the same word in various small fonts all over my work. I have no idea where it came from. If you look at the photo, there is the word "Jin" in white everywhere and I can't seem to remove it.

Just wanted to follow up. We have figured out the issue and we are in the process of figuring out how to fix it. In the meantime, the workarounds are thus: Either open the text frame, which seems to make the fragments disappear, or use a paragraph text frame (tap-drag a text frame, rather than just tap with the text tool.) the problem appears to be specifically related to point text frames. Hope that helps. I'll let you know when a fix is in place.

I recently had this bug appear in a Photoshop.  A portion of one of my text entries created a repeating pattern of one and a half of the letters, and started appearing on multiple layers.  Even appearing on new text created.  It has now spread to a seperate Photoshop file, even though I never dragged anything from the corrupted file to the new file.  Here's an image of the issue.

It's currently appearing on a Smart Layer, though it isn't present inside the Smart Layer itself.

Has anyone seen this issue before and figured out how to address it?  I can't find anyone else describing this issue in other posts.

If you're using PS 2019, make sure you have Legacy Compositing checked in the preferences under performance.

I just updated so I'm using Photoshop CC 2019 v 20.0.2.

I tried checking it and resetting my Photoshop.  The text error is still there on that layer.  We'll see if it doesn't happen anymore at least.

Legacy Compositing did not fix my issue.  This MO text bug continues to corrupt my files.  It happened again today.  Seems like a fairly serious bug introduced two updates ago.  I probably won't be the only one affected I'm sure.

Yeah, this looks like a similar or the same issue.  Frustrating that there doesn't seem to be anyone from Adobe recognizing the issue.

Are you working with fonts of Adobe Fonts service? Or is a Font installed on your computer?

It is a font from my computer.  But that's most of my fonts, and has always been most of my fonts.  And this issue only appeared after the major update to Photoshop CC 20.0

I have been having this error reoccur since the beginning with PS CC.  I have reported it twice now directly to the chat help line, and been ignored.   I have uploaded files showing the error, and no one at PS will pay any attention.

I have this happen to me about once every several months, and I cannot reproduce it at will, but I have saved many files when it occurred.  It happened again today, so I know it's not been fixed.

It destroys the file for practical use, and I have to go back to an earlier save and repeat my work.   When I do, the problem does not always reappear in the same file after I repeat the same actions that caused it.

My occurrances have been on different fonts, entirely different files, and in every PS release since I got CC.

I'm experiencing a strange bug after updating to 21.2

1) I create a new canvas

2) I select the type tool and type some text.

3) When i drag / resample etc the text on the same canvas, it creates a duplicate ghost appearance of that text, on the screen.

4) Even when I hide the visibility of the text layer, the ghost/duplicate text still appears on the screen.

There doesnt appear to be any compatiability warnings etc with the PC or outdated display drivers.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Hi

Go into preferences and if legacy compositing is enabled, disabled it and restart Photoshop

Have you tried turning off the visibility of the three text layers a the top of the layer stack?

It almost looks like a watermark, except it is in front of everything, so must be in one of the top three layers.

Try Michael's idea first. If it does not work, turn off the visibility for all the layers, then turn them on one at a time in case the text was rasterized and is now pixels on another layer.

I did try turning off the visibility of the three text layers, but some of the words were still there.

Thank you for the reply.

Hi Jane, I ended up resolving the problem by pressing the undo button until it somehow disappeared. But now that I think about it, your advice would have been an easier way to fix the problem. Thank you and I'll keep that in mind if this happens again!

Definitely looks like a watermark. Is there a function that automatically overlays whatever you input as a tiled watermark (like in stock images samples and drafts)?

The other option is, of course, that the device is haunted 🤭

I also have text pattern spreading all over the PSD file, they can't be selected, nor deleted, don't appear in layer and are exported by the generator really messing up a lot of work. It started to happen when I selected all the text in the file and changed the font. I reverted back to Myriad Pro but nothing does.

Help would be appreciated, a lot !

Here are some samples in PS :

It's April of 2022 and the issue is still happening.  Anyone find a solution yet?  Or should I give up on PS?  Now even when I revert to an older version, it's still there. It's ruined all of my work and is now affecting how I make a living.

I am having the same problem with Photoshop on my iPad Pro. Unfortunately, turning the visibilty on and off doesn't work. Moving the text layer above or below background layers doesnt help. Exiting out of the program and loading it agagin doen't help. Hitting the undo button doesn't help. Needing a viable solution here. Trying to find a workout for this floating/multiplying ghost text driving me mad.
