Question

Type layer freezes when pasting in copy from another document

I just updated to Photoshop 24.3. (Macbook Pro OS Ventura 13.3) Prior to the update, I was working in a document and editing text, no problem. After the update, I click the type tool, and paste a line of text from another document, then attempt to click in the middle of the line where I want to (click return) to move the last part of the text to a new line, and the cursor will not move from the beginning of the line. I try to move it manually with the side arrow, nothing.   If I type the text manually, it works fine. If I try to edit previous text blocks, it works fine.  I have been working for months transferring copy I wrote in another program, and formatting it in photoshop - but it stopped working yesterday when I updated.

The text layer is not locked. I uninstalled photoshop and reinstalled, not fixed.  I have no idea what's going on.  Please help.

Here is a help doc that will explain it: https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

If you look at the Creative Cloud Interface, there are three little dots to the side of the Open button, if you click them and choose other versions, you should be able to get back to the version you were using.

Now, if you want to install the new version without deleting the old one, when you click Install in the previous screen, it will take you to this screen. Select install:

Then uncheck "Delete Previous Version" and continue the install.

This will leave your older version intact. Then when you are satisfied that you are not having issues you can uninstall the old version.

I hope that helps!

Michelle

Hi, I'll try that, thank you.  I update through Creative Cloud (just click update) - so I'm not sure how or where to get previous versions.

Thank you

I wrote the description in pages, then copy pasted a paragraph into Photoshop. I am formatting a web page design and need to format around photos etc. to give to the programmer.

Hi,

It definitely sounds like a bug. We are sorry to hear that you are having this problem and thank you for making us aware of the issue.

Have you tried resetting the Type tool?

With the Type tool selected, click the arrow beside the tool in the Options Bar, Click on the gear Icon and from the flyout menu choose Reset tool. See the image below.

If that doesn't work, do you still have the older version of Photoshop you were using? If so, I would suggest going back to working in that version. If not, download it again so you can keep working until this gets resolved.

I always recommend that when you upgrade, do not write over the current version that is working well, install a fresh copy of Photoshop to keep the older version in tact. This helps to allow you to keep working when you run into issues like this.

Here are a couple of help pages to keep your eye on. This does not specifically addres your issue, but they might help: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html

Try pasting that text into another app like Pages or TextEdit, does that work ok? Can you then copy/paste it into Photoshop?

FWIW, Photoshop isn't the best tool for text formatting. InDesign and Illustrator work much better, and the Mac includes Pages for free, which is also a lot better for text formatting.
