Weird Photoshop lag I can't pinpoint

For 1-2 months now my Photoshop suddenly started acting weird. On each fresh open, when I load a pic, in the first 1-2 minutes it's extremely laggy and unusable. After those mins it's back to normal again.

This only happens if I load a pic, and I have to stay in Photoshop and wait, if I switch to another program it doesn't resolve in the background. This is so bizarre and I can't pinpoint what's causing this.

Memory and scratch disk are normal - I have 64GB RAM and 400GB free on both scratch disks, but also this only happens on the first image I load, if I load other images they don't make it lag.

Edit: I just completely reinstalled the newest version of Photoshop, no plugins, nothing... and same issue persists...

I have a very high-end PC, and was running into these same issues. I kept banging my head on the wall cause I have a few years old laptop that runs Photoshop flawlessly with much lower specs. I had tried everything that's been mentioned on these forums as well.

If you go to Preferences > Technology Previews - Uncheck "Older GPU mode (pre 2016)" if it is checked. That solved everything for me. Hope this helps!

Two things stand out in your system info.

First of all, Photoshop is set to use up to 98% RAM, which means that only 2% will be left for the OS and other applications.

Go to Edit > Preferences > Performance, and set Memory usage to 70%. You have 64 GB RAM, and 70% should be sufficient for Photoshop.

Your GPU driver is nine months old.

Download the latest Studio driver from this page, and install it: https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/247854/

I did both the newest drivers and setting the RAM to 70%, but unfortunately little to no improvements for this issue

Hi again, here is the System Info. My performance settings are set relatively high, and resetting preferences didn't seem to help. If it also matters, my Windows Firewall has been disabled for months but I tried enabling it again but no change
