2 identical lenses, only one works with Camera Raw profile

In short, I have 2 Tamron 18-400 DiII B028E Canon mount lenses purchased about a year apart.

If I use the older lens the Camera Raw 11.4.1 works automatically, if I use the newer one it does not recognize the lens and I have to remember to assign it with every file opened. It happens in multiple versions of PS (up to 2018).

I'm running MacOS 10.13.6. I ASSUME it's a firmware differnece in the lens?

Tamron says it's strictly an Adobe problem.  Any suggestions? Adobe?

Thank for any help.

The RAW data should be recorded ins the AUX area Not in the EXIF data. If it is not there the lens may not be sending the info to the camera.

I did see one difference in the raw metadata.

With the OLD lens it says:

<aux:Lens>TAMRON 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD B028</aux:Lens> <aux:LensID>491</aux:LensID>

In the NEW lens it says:

<aux:Lens>TAMRON 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD B028</aux:Lens> <aux:LensID>117</aux:LensID>

The BOLD is mine. The difference being the lens ID. I don't know what this means but it is one differnce I found.

Thanks, Jim. I hope this helps determine what's happening.

If you look at the camera data in the file info panel in either Photoshop or Bridge, does the lens show up? If it does, is the info different between the two lenses?

Chuck, interesting observation.

The metadata on both images from both lenses is the same and accurate, it even shows the lens model (TAMRON 18-400mm F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC HLD B028) on both even though I did not manually add it on the conversion from raw.

But when I open a raw file lens correction with the new lens it says "unable to locate a matching lens profile automatically". With the older lens is sets it correctly.

So, it seems the metadata knows the lens model but camera raw lens correction is unable to match that to a profile?

Interesting...

This is a user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

Also you may want to try the Camera Raw Forum
