Question

2024 pen pressure

Hello,

I'm here to report a possible bug regarding the pen pressure in Photoshop 2024. I use a Gaomon PD1560 table, version 14.8.133.1259. I work on Windows 11, version 22H2 and OS build 22621.2283. When trying to draw in 2024, the pen pressure wouldn't work at all. I tried re-installing both Photoshop and my tablet drivers, turning pen pressure on in the brush menu, ensuring WindowsInk is enabled, all to no avial. The only way I seemed to fix the problem was downloading photoshop's 2023 version and using that instead. I hope this is helpful!

Hunting down PSUserConfig.txt to modify again because 2025 version is doing the same thing... shouldn't be suprised by now. Just let wacom do it's thing adobe. every other program works without issues.

I have a Wacom Intuos small model (model name: CTL-4100WL/K0-CA).
The drivers are up to date and I'm using Windows 11 home.

I tried to get Photoshop to recognize the pen pressure of my tablet, but that didn't solve the problem.

What I did:
1. deleted and reinstalled the driver
2. pasted the config text file into photoshop settings
3. redo my Wacom tablet settings

I can't for the life of me fix the problem, what the heck is going on?
I just wanted to draw with my tablet.

Still a problem. PSUserConfig.txt workaround doesn't help. wtf why is this even a thing in 2024?

Sorry, this actually works, but the various instructions available online are outdated for the 2024 version. For Photoshop 2024, you need to add this line to your PSUserConfig.txt file

UseSystemStylus 0

My pen pressure stopped working as well. Using a Cintiq Pro 24. And just downloaded the latest version of Photoshop 2024.
I'm on Windows 10.

I tried it with and without Windows Ink turned on.
I tried it with and without the txt file in the Adoby Photoshop 2024 Settings.
I tried downloading Photoshop 2023.

I tried all the combination of all of them and I'm at my wit's end.
I have no pressure and i'm losing a day's worth of worktime trying to figure this out.

I'm so disappointed in the time and money I spent upgrading to Photoshop Elements 2024. There is no pen pressure, so the brushes don't taper. I can't find the shape dynamic check box to adjust the pen pressure as outlined in a tutorial. I chose to stay with Photoshop E to avoid the learning curve of learning a new software program, but apparently, that was a mistake.

I'll try it and see.  Someone else commented that they tried it and they thought it worked, but something else with the pen pressure broke instead when turning it back on, so it didn't end up fixing it for them.

So, I think I might have found a solution to the pen pressure problem? (at least everything works as expected now), ever since 2017 or so, I had windows Ink disabled (because back then it only gave trouble) so I tried enabling it again, just to test, and the pen pressure is back in PS 2024. I don't really know why this solved it, but maybe enabling and disabling once is somehow key?

And for those having issues with and the weird ripples, a very kind man solved it for me on reddit a few years ago, here's the link with the steps I followed: https://docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/guides/windows/windows-ink/configuring-photoshop-to-not-use-windows-ink

As of now everything works as expected for me, hope it can help you!

I'm getting odd lag in the crop tool and lasso tool that are hard to pin down and very annoying, and in dialogs that require you to hold down a button (some plugins, for example) they don't work properly with Window Ink. Whether it's Microsoft or Adobe at fault, who knows, but I wouldn't rate it as "Fixed", but perhaps "Less broken".  I did also switch to a Xence tablet, whether that makes a difference over the wacom I couldn't say 😕😕

Previously the entire windows ink existence, it would bug out any pressure sensitivity for the tablets, so it had to be disabled and overridden to work properly.  It some reason only worked with windows tablets on laptops or something, I forgot, but it was super buggy and not work on any actual drawing tablets.

But you're saying in the 2024 version, you got it to work by turning it back on?  I wonder if they finally fixed it after 6-7 years of ignoring the issue and didn't tell anyone?

Never mind, I just seen your second reply......also weird, this website is also bugging out because I clicked reply to the recent response and it did not "reply" to it.
