I just started using 3D in Photoshop on a MacBook Pro (and an iMac). I made a graphic in Illustrator, brought it into Photoshop and made an stl file that I printed to my 3D printer. I was getting along OK. Now when I bring in a file and extrude it, I can't do anything else. It's like the image is untouchable. I also tried text right in Photoshop but the exact same thing happened - extrude, then nothing.
Use OpenCL was unchecked after an update so I checked it and restarted.
Drawang mode is Normal (I tried Basic but no change).
What's wrong?
Adobe are updating the core graphics functions in Photoshop. This is driven by the operating systems of Apple and Microsoft in which the old Open GL functions are being removed in the case of Apple, or deprecated in the case of Microsoft. This means that the graphics functions that have worked for years must be rewritten to use Metal and Direct X. At the same time, Adobe are sensibly updating those core functions to deliver the additional speed we require to handle the very large files of today.

As explained above, Adobe are updating the core graphics functions in Photoshop. This is driven by the operating systems of Apple and Microsoft in which the old Open GL/CL functions are being removed in the case of Apple, or deprecated in the case of Microsoft. Some functionality in Photoshop, such as 3D, still relies on the older Open GL graphics functions. To make these work, an additional preference Preferences>Technology previews>Deactivate Native Canvas has been added. This can be checked and Photoshop restarted to restore 3D functions to where they were in 22.3

Ther is a lot of problems with the last version 22.4.2 3D even if you desactivate OPENCL still not working, also there is a bug with crooping or resizing art board, when you enter a range and you valid, it's not conserving the range you put in the fields... and many many other pbs...
If you want to use 3D use the version 2020 or 21.2.9 even with the last IOS big sur it's still working good... even with OpenCL active...
so this not at all because of the OS or whatever in my opinion, and it still working in the version 22 before the last Realease...

And now the mystery is solved... Adobe releases: Substance 3D and "breaks" the 3d tools we've been using successfully.
This company knows it has a stranglehold on the design community and it's shameful.
They should just admit when they're up to no good instead of leaving to guess.
I purchased more memory because I thought my imac was the cause.
Really sad way to do business. If I'm wrong, I'll need convincing. The proof and evidence seems to be glaring.

I started this thread. The problem I had was resolved by davescm and it's been working ever since on my computer (MacBook Pro 13", 2020, 2GHzQuad Core Intel, 16 GB, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 1536 MB running MacOS 11.4 and using Photoshop 22.4.2). I know that software updates must be made for many reasons and almost always when hardware and OS changes are made by the computer companies. These changes are almost always for improvements. I try to keep up with theses changes as soon as possible. Although, for major changes, like an OS going from 10 to 11, I will usually wait until I hear that the bugs have been ironed out.
That being said, I also know that traditional 3D software has been around a long time for the purpose of designing mechanical parts, archetectural drawings, etc. I know Photoshop better than those 3D programs so it was natural for me to try that after trying to get used to those other programs. I am using it to make things on a 3D printer and, so far Photoshop has worked okay but the other software is more suited for most applications.
Bottom line, I don't think it's a sad way to do business as much as it is a continuing plan to evole and improve a great product.

I totally agree with natasha93244772. All I sue Photoshop is for the 3D function and now they stop supporting it. This is the second time I've been screwed by Adobe. I built a lot of web sites use Adobe Muse and they did away with that too. I had to get new software to totally re-do all the sites I managed. I am very disappointed in Adobe and how they treat their customers.
