Hello, my student who worked a project on Ps 2023 faced this today: the brush tool suddenly started brushing a rough spray (the split line on the upper left). We created a new layer. I reset the brush tool to the default and restarted the computer. The brush worked fine. What do you think happenned? Was it a Windows glitch? Or did she accidentally modified her brush? Best, N
Try Blend Mode »Dissolve«.
C_P is correct that it was the dissolve blending mode. The student might also have hit Shift+Alt+I.

alt-shift-+ and alt-shift-- can be used to rotate through the Blend Modes; maybe they accidentally hit alt-shift-+.
(Edit: As jane-e pointed out shift-+ would suffice [instead of shift-alt-+ as I had stated] and seems more likely for an accidental key-hit.)
If you need to post screenshots please try to avoid photographing the screen and take a »direct« screenshot.

So I have been pressing the alt-key for naught … well, live and learn.
