Adding and removing specific colors in photos

I am trying to create actions that will apply color selections for black and white photos.

I have created actions for individual colors using the "Select > Color Range" option which works well. I am now looking to create an additional action that will allow me add or remove specific colors in a photo so I can display multiple colors in my black and white photos.

The only thing I can compare this to is the Color Mixer in Lightroom where I can change the saturation and hue for individual colors.

I think you're looking for the Gradient Map...

You get it from the adjustments panel, bottom right, or from the menu as shown on screenshot.

To manipulate it, use the properties panel, or click the adjustment layer icon in the layers panel.

There, you can assign a color to a grayscale value like so:

The left and right image are identical, the right image has a gradient map over it that turns Blacks to Blue, shadows to orange, midtones to green, highlights to cyan and whites to blue.

The left and right image are identical, the right image has a gradient map over it that turns Blacks to Blue, shadows to orange, midtones to green, highlights to cyan and whites to blue.

You do this by clicking on the gradient bar (you'll see) and adding squares, then clicking the squares to select your color, etc etc. The text fields beneath allow you to have precise control over what does what.

If this doesn't make much sense, that's normal. The fastest way to understand is to try and play around with it.

Is this what you're looking for?
