Hey everybody,
I got a quick question. As part of my studies I am part of a game development project and responsible for designing various 2D tiles/ graphics for the game.
For this task I prefer to use photoshop.
Now all tiles / graphics need to be at least 32 x 32 px. Now some decorative objects are too small to fill out the whole 32x32 px (i. e. small cups, small torches...).
I know that I can add transparent pixels in the export settings when changing the canvas size, but they will be added to all sides equally.
If I have an object that need to be at the bottom of the tile and needs to be filled up only at the left, right and top side to make it 32 x 32px how do I do that in Photoshop?
I appreciate your help, was searching for this on Google and on YouTube and didn't find any solution...

If I've read your issue correctly, Image > Canvas Size allows you to choose how to add additional canvas.
The Crop tool can also be set to do similar (Set it to W x H x Resolution and only enter 32 x 32 but leave resolution empty)

I have a project in which I want to create all the different objects/tiles.
I just tested it but (as the name of the function already implies) I am only able to change the canvas size of the whole project i. e. the "background layer", which currently is 300x300px. Would it be possible to do exactly what you described for a specific tile/object layer (which all are smaller than the actual project dimensions) in a project with multiple layers?

You can do that using Canvas size as already mentioned by @davescm
You can restrick change to only one side in Canvas Size dialogue. Below screenshot shows you how to add 10px to the left side. If you want transparent pixels added then ensure you do not have Background layer.
Here is how to add 10px to the left and 10px to the top side.
