Adjustment Layer affect ting all lower layers instead of just one layer

I must be doing something wrong that is simple. Sorry I'm being stupid.

 

I want to add an adjustment layer, and only have it affect one layer. But it seems to affect all lower latyers. What am I missing?  This seems really basic.  Sorry if the question is too simple.

    Hi

    You need to right click on the adjustment layer and choose create clipping mask

    You can also Alt click between the two layers to create a clipping mask
