Adjustment Layer grayed out section 3 on Popup Menu

I am unable to use all features  when working in an adjustment Layer.

The popup menu has greyed out the third section of the menu. I am unable to use Black & White Adjustment Layer. I am trying to edit black & white photos. Any suggestions?

Black & White adjustment layers only available for RGB 8 or 16 bit mode, not CMYK or 32 bit.
