Adjustment layer missing properties dialog box

regardless of what adjustment layer I create the property dialog box does not show up    a setting must be missing somewhere

What version of photoshop and operating system are you using?

Have you checked Window > Properties to open the properties panel or is it that the properties panel is there but empty?
