Question

Adjustment Layer not working when layer has blending options

I create a new layer with some blending options, say color overlay or gradient overlay. If I create a curve adjustment layer on the layer above, it affects the layer below and it's blending options. If I press CTRL + ALT + G to create a clipping mask so it only affects the layer below if does not afftect that layer's blending options anymore.

Please provide the file or at the very least meaningful screenshots including all pertinent Panels.

By Clipping Masking the Adjustment Layer to the Pixel Layer it is applied to the Layer which is then applied to the background according to its Blend Mode – if »Blend Clipped Layers as Group« is checked for the base Layer naturally (in the Blending Options).

Attached files. If I create an adjustment later to change the Hue/Saturation it applies to the all layers (sample1.jpg). If I CTRL + ALT + G the adjustment layer my expectation is that it will just apply to the rectangle. So my expectation is sample3.jpg that the adjustment layer only affects the rectangle. Instead I get sample2.jpg so it affects nothing.

I would expect it to work exactly the same as it does when not clipped.

So the adjustment layer affects the layer below and and any gradient overlay the layer below has.

Why does creating a clipping mask make it not affect the gradient overlay of the layer below?

You wanting something does not make its absence a bug.

I already mentioned the Blending Options – have you tried changing them (check »Blend Interior Effects as Group« and uncheck »Blend Clipped Layers as Group«)?
