Adjustments on layers dont show up on the image

Hey all, ever since this update (I'm on windows) I have been having problems in Photoshop where the adjustment layer I'm working on will show a split second of the effect as I scrub the slidder on the channel mixer layer for example. Then it won't show any effect on the image no matter what I adjust, on that layer or any other layer even. The only way for the effect to show up on the image is to the visibility of the underlying layer off and back on again. Then the same issue will occur again as soon as I make another adjustment. 

 

Things of note that might be a cause to this issue:

I recently backed up all my support files for my various adobe programs and uninstalled old adobe programs including photoshop. I also uninstalled Photoshop 2020 and reinstalled just a couple days ago. It is up to date. 

 

This is a color file that I edited like crazy in .tif. When I finsihed I wanted to edit to black and white so I saved a copy of the file as .psd. I then merged to a new layer and deleted all the edits to work with a much smaller file. 

 

I have not tried this on another file yet. 

 

I could really use any help. I can't work like this.

    Right! When I opened a save PSD to work on it, after the update, Any layer I work on looks all wonky, especially text, it won't delete it just types over the old text and it won't update unless I turn the visiblity off for any layer other than the one I am working on.  I will be using 2019 until this annoying issue is fixed.
