Adobe Crash Processor.exe doesn't stop after I exit photoshop and it locks up my files and/or folder

Description:

When I exit Adobe Photoshop, the Adobe Crash Processor.exe process doesn't stop running. This process locks up my files and/or folders, so I can't delete or move them.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open Adobe Photoshop via Create Reference Frame in Adobe After Effects
  2. Do some editing that includes Generative features.
  3. Exit Adobe After Effects and Adobe Photoshop
  4. The Adobe Crash Processor.exe process is still running

Expected Result:

The Adobe Crash Processor.exe process should stop running after I exit Adobe apps.

Actual Result:

The Adobe Crash Processor.exe process doesn't stop running and locks up my files and/or folders.

Configuration:

  • Operating System: Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit [Version 10.0.22621.2715]
  • Adobe Version: Adobe CC 2024, all updates installed to date of post on stable branch

Workaround:

I can stop the Adobe Crash Processor.exe process by using Task Manager or Unlocker, but this is not a permanent solution.

Recommendation:

Please fix the issue with the Adobe Crash Processor.exe process so that it stops running after I exit Adobe Photoshop.

Additional Information:

I am using the latest version of Adobe and Windows on the stable branch. I have tried restarting my computer, but the issue persists.

    I work at a company where we're doing a bunch of manual installs of Acrobat Pro DC.

    For every install we install Creative Cloud and then use it to install Acrobat.

    This problem has prevented it from installing every time I've installed it.

    When I click the button to install Acrobat in Creative Cloud it goes to "Waiting" and it won't continue until I kill the Adobe Crash Processor process.

    I deleted "Adobe Crash Processor.exe" from my hard drive so it can't be started. (But it won't also report crashes to Adobe).

    Now I don't see that process in task manager anymore. You might need to repeat this after Photoshop upgrade to another version.

      I have same problem.

      1) start Photoshop

      2) quit Photoshop

      3) crash processor is still there hanging

      Hello, I often find the Adobe Crash Processor active after closing a file. My solution is to use Microsoft PowerToys and the File Locksmith utility. It activates with a right-click on the file and allows you to see which programs are using the file and close them. In 99% of cases, it’s the Adobe Crash Processor.

        This is what I use also. I would like to add that I have been working in prepress for close to 30 years now, and have always been using Mac's. Recently where I am working now, we abolished all Macs and use Windows PC's only. I see more bugs and errors related to Windows issues now in the last three months than I have seen in years using Macs.

            Have you found a solution to this yet? Myself and all of my colleages are currently dealing with this exact issue. Killing Crash Processer in task manager is the only workaround that allows me to move my files.

            Same here. 4 hours with Adobe support who said it's a Microsoft problem, who say it's an Adobe problem. Please tell me someone has a fix.

            I've had about 4/5 long calls with Adobe and I've been chatting back & forth with my company's IT provider as well. 

            The only thing that's "worked" so far is setting up a new local user on my PC and running Illustrator as that user. This would mean besically setting up my PC from scratch - which is a hassle.

            A quick work-around that my IT support came up with is to wait for the error to pop up, run a .bat file that kills Adobe Crash Reporter, and then click "Try again." This works 99% of the time.

            It's pretty easy to set up the .bat file. Just make a new .txt file somwhere (desktop works), paste in the below 2 lines (I made them orange here):
            @2846721 off
            taskkill /im "Adobe Crash Processor.exe" /f
            and then save it as a .bat file instead of a .txt file. Then open that file any time you need to get around the error.

            Hope this helps someone else! Not ideal but it's the simplest "fix" for me.
