The serial number isn't in folders. You have to keep records. However, if you registered the software it will be your account details when you check them on http://www.adobe.com/
Your software is obsolete and will not be suitable for the next version of macOS (Catalina). (In fact, it's very hard to install and use reliably on the current system). You have to choose between these two. It's a very simple rule: If you want to run old apps, don't try to run new systems.

I'm 23 years younger than the OP, I keep records, and I'm having the same issue after upgrading to Catalina. I did not know prior to upgrading the OS that it wouldn't work with CS5 hence why I came here to look for a solution because Adobe doesn't offer support non-current products. I didn't consider CS5 to be an app since I originally purchased and installed it with CDs on a MacBook. Live and learn.

Hi
According to this thread from 2010, both versions were installed if your system was 64-bit and only the 32-bit version was installed if it was not. The thread quotes the Help file from CS5.
CS5 Install ONLY the 64bit version?
As others have said, though, CS5 may not run on new computers with new operating systems. You didn’t say, but are you trying to reinstall on your old computer and OS or is this a fresh install on a new computer and OS?

If you purchased you Mac with CS5 Pre installed If you did not receive the installation media and your own serial number with you mac you may be out of luck. The pre installed Mac CS5 Photoshop may have been activated for bulk license held by the mac retailer or Apple. If you do not see CS5 as one of you Adobe products with your serial in you Adobe account on Adobe.com you may not have a licence. You may need to work with the retailer you purchased your Mac from. I do not know if there is a serial number saved on your machine. Activation servers write hidden activation credentials on your machine. A Mac key finder may not find a serial number on your machine.

Photoshop cs5 on the mac side is 64 bit and only will install on 64 bit mac os systems.
One could however run photoshop cs5 in 32 bit mode in order to use some older legacy plug-ins.
That being said, at least for me on the mac side i haven't kept photoshop cs5 installed on any mac os after El Capitan due to
how poorly it works in relation to using it on Snow Leopard, for example. Of course my motivation is clearly not high to get to work as i a have creative cloud subscription and also a mac with Snow Leopard. I have serious doubts about how well any cs5 applications will run on the upcoming macOS Catalina, since apple dropped support for 32 bit apps in Catalina and even though the photoshop cs5 application itself is 64 bit, some of helper apps like the adobe updater are 32 bit
