After CC 2017.1 update, scratch disk filling up fast

I updated Photoshop to 2017.1 yesterday, and all day today I keep getting a warning that the scratch disks are almost full. There are 2 dedicated SSDs on my Windows 10 PC that have more than 200 GB each used for scratch, yet both rapidly become full (in about 30 minutes of working). Closing Photoshop releases all of the temporary files and the drives go back to full capacity. This has never been an issue with previous versions, even when working with massive files and multiple files open together. What could be causing this crazy "scratch use on steroids"?!

I too am having this issue. I updated earlier this week. I have spent at least 40 hours working within this update before this problem suddenly surfaced a few hours ago after working the past 10 hours or so. Did nothing out of my normal workflow before it started.

Maxed out Macbook Pro Mid 2012 with 500GB SSD running OS 10.11.6. Remaining 100GB fills up within a few minutes of working on a single image.

Also started receiving an error message when I closed PS after receiving my first disk full messages. It says, "Selective palette Error, XML parsing error: 'no element found' at line 1." Internet searches point to Nik Pro Contrast issue. Which makes sense as the entire suite is acting strangely after updating. Restarting the system makes the message stop until my HDD fills up again. Apparently this update broke more than one thing.

Will be "rolling back" to previous version as soon as i click Add Reply.

I'm having the same problem after installing the latest update on a Mac Book Pro with 500gb storage filling up with the scratch drive - moved 100gb of images and within minutes I'm getting a message saying my disk is almost full

Rolling back to the previous version of Photoshop resolved my issue... well, it didn't "resolve" the issue, rather took me back to the good ol' days before "the issue". Kudos to Steve who informed me that this was even possible. I guess since every upgrade has been stable for me, there has never been a need to do so. Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks. Ha! If anyone needs to roll back, but doesn't know how, here is some info from the Adobe blogs...

1. Click the Creative Cloud icon, located in the taskbar (Windows) or Apple menu bar (Mac OS), to open the Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app. If it’s not already selected, click the Apps tab at the top of the window.

2. In the Find Additional Apps section, choose Previous Versions > View Previous Versions.

3. Scroll to the app you want to download and click the Install button. Choose an available version to install.

4. Find the application you wish to revert to in the list, click on the Install menu button, and choose the application you wish to revert to (in this case 18.0.1).

5. The former version of the application is now installed.

Before doing this, if you want to preserve your preferences navigate to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2017 (at least for you Windows users... Mac guys, you're on your own). Then copy that folder some where on your computer. After installing the 18.0.1 version you can move this back to that location, thus replacing the defaults.

Hopefully the software engineers get a fix for this quickly and take down the update in the mean time. I'm starting to see variations of this problem pop up on other forums and it has the potential to become a major problem.

Ok, so this IS a CC 2017.1 update issue, at least as it pertains to Windows 10 PCs. Against my better judgement, I updated my assistants Photoshop from 2017.0 to 2017.1 and ran the same tests as earlier today. The results were the same as my PC where the memory allocation runs like an out of control wildfire! Now, my stupid desire to adhere to the scientific method has rendered both me and my assistant incredibly stifled in our workflow!

My question now is, do the moderators or administrators on this forum report directly to technical support when a bug is discovered in new updates? If not, how can I bring this to their attention stat?! This needs to be fixed ASAP, as I don't see this as just an annoying little bug that can just be ironed out in the future, rather a major malfunction to the software that will cause numerous users countless hours of downtime.

If they want any help reproducing my condition... open any file of any size, use the patch tool to make a selection, move the selection to patch the source, repeat with another selection. Do this over and over and watch the temp files on the scratch disk increase exponentially.

Hi everyone,
After the last update I've installed 2 days ago, the swap file started to be HUGE, from 2-3GB to 20-30GB and even bigger.
What is happening? Does anyone know what the problem is? We have 2 ASUS laptops in the office and both started have the same problem. My colleague has 40gb free on C and 120 GB on D and the C gets FULL and D drops under 100GB when working at just one file. And there are less then 10 layers.

Before the update everything worked fine.

I have to second that problem! I have 45GB of HDD free, which always fills up pretty quickly since the recent update. Even with closing ALL files, the space is not free'd up, until Photoshop is closed. And i did not change any settings since the update.

I figured there'd be more people having this issue. Everything I'm seeing with faulty memory allocation smacked of a program issue. Hopefully there can be a fix for this pretty quick.
