Done as below :

1.  Cnrl+N

2.  Dragged a picture from desktop.

This picture size was 1.5 width and 1.7

     height.

3.  Then cropped the picture to edit.

Then size became 5 inch width and 5.6

      inch height.

How come item number 2 and item number 3

became big size difference.  Both are 100% zoomed.  Please explain in detail.  I am in beginner stage. 20191125_212730.jpg

Check your resolution in the crop tool settings. Remove 300 ppi and it will retain the same resolution but crop to the size you want.

Yes kstohlmeyer1 is right,

Try to set Crop settings right. Be carefull with dimensions and resolution

Check also your new document and your picture resolution.

If you merge documents size (inches, cms) are not important. Check pixel dimensions - it's matter

Look at your options bar at the top of your screen with the crop tool. You have your W and H set, but also a different resolution (300) which is changing the overall size of the image.

This link will explain the math behind WxHxRes = image size.
