Question

All photoshop versions are crashing

  • January 31, 2017

Before I start, thank you in advance. Copied from another forum post. I hope anyone here will be able to help.

I got a big problem. Photoshop keeps crashing and I tried alot of things that were suggested on the web. Resetting preferences, reinstalling, removing plugins/fonts, enable/disable Graphics/ Processor/open GL and disable auto save feature. I used photoshop cc, cs6 32/64bit version. Does anyone have any idea what could be the case?

Edit: this happened recently, I have been using ps for atleast 8 years

Edit: It doesnt crash if I just open it, mostly during the drawing (using the tablet) after 5-60 minutes. If i go away for some hours it doesn't crash at all.

Edit: I use win10 and updating my tablet drivers did indeed stop the crashing for a day.

Edit: I did several test for my ram. No problems were shown.

Edit: Tried replugging the tablet before and during photoshop. Nothing happened.

Looked into my event folder: I have no idea what it means..

You have a Exception code: 0xc0000005 error still

Here are you solutions.

One or more of these situations apply to your system.

Process of elimination.

I would start with running Ccleaner app on your registry and then reboot, and go from there.

Somewhere your system is buggered up. Unfortunately it seems to only happen when you run PS.

PS is just the trigger in your case. It happens with other apps as well.

Solutions to 0xC0000005: Access Violation Error

When 0xC0000005 Error Occurs

0xc0000005 is a critical Access Violation error that requires your immediate reaction. As a rule, you get the 0xc0000005 error message when you try to start one of your software programs in Windows. After that the program terminates and you can’t get it work. Also, the 0xC0000005 error code may appear in other different error messages, depending on the software you are trying to start or install or the action you are trying to execute on your computer. The most typical causes for the ‘0xC0000005: Access Violation’ error are: corrupt registry, malware, faulty RAM or device driver, incorrectly written, installed or updated software or even Windows security features.

Below are some examples of 0xC0000005 error messages and possible solutions. However, if you are not a computer technician we strongly advice to contact an expert on this issue or use specialized software.

Variations of 0xC0000005 Error Messages:

  • “An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated. Exception: access violation (0xC0000005), Address”
  • “The application failed to initialize properly (0xC0000005). Click OK to terminate the application”.
  • The "Stop 0x0000008E (0xC0000005 ...) combination on the blue screen.

How to fix the 0xC0000005 error

0xc0000005 error case 1: Registry

The 0xC0000005 error is often caused by poor maintenance of your computer and corrupt registry entries that pile up as you install and delete programs, especially when you install new programs over old ones that were not completely deleted. To get rid of the 0xC0000005 error you could check all the registry entries manually but this procedure is long and complicated. If you are not a computer expert checking your registry manually may take a few days. In addition, you may damage important registry entries. So if you are not a PC guru use special software to repair your registry.

0xc0000005 error case 2: Virus

Your computer may have a virus and the 0xC0000005 error informs that the system prevented execution of a malicious application. Install the latest

0xc0000005 error case 3: Bad RAM Memory

Quite often this problem results from a faulty RAM memory. This is most likely the reason if you started getting the 0xC0000005 error message after installing a new RAM memory. To check this you can remove the new memory and see if the 0xC0000005 error disappears. If so, get a refund or ask to replace the faulty memory with a good one.

Don’t forget to do the following before you start removing the memory:

1) Turn off your computer and remove all cables (power, network, etc.)
2) Remove the battery (if you have a laptop)
3) Ground yourself out before you touch the memory!!(for example, touch metal screw on a lightswitch).

0xc0000005 error case 4: DEP

Quite often the nasty 0xC0000005 error occurs because of Data Execution Prevention (DEP) introduced by Microsoft in Windows SP2 and used in later versions. DEP is a set of security features that prevents code execution from non-executable memory segments. It’s a vivid illustration of a typical

0xc0000005 error case 5: Printer Drivers

Sometimes 0xC0000005 error occurs when your current printer profile is incompatible with the updated settings of one of the programs you are trying to use. You may reinstall the program, printer drivers or even the entire system over and over again and that won’t help. The reason is that every time you will install the same default user profile included in your printer installation package by the manufacturer. The most simple way to fix 0xC0000005 is to create a new, clean user profile for the printer.

0xc0000005 error case 6: Bad Video Driver

Sometimes 0xC0000005 errors occur after video card driver updates. If that is the case rollback to the drivers you’ve been using before the update. And inform the vendor about the issue.

0xc0000005 error case 7: Development Issue

If you are a software developer and you keep getting an exception with status code STATUSACCESSVIOLATION (0xC0000005), your program might attempt to violate DEP. You could try the following: If your application is designed to use executable memory, it must have this attribute set on the appropriate memory by specifying PAGEEXECUTE, PAGEEXECUTEREAD, PAGEEXECUTEREADWRITE or PAGEEXECUTEWRITECOPY in the memory protection argument of the Virtual memory allocation functions.

If the above solutions don’t help run your program in debugger. Maybe you haven’t initialized the pointer correctly. When debugger stops on a violation simply check the call stack and open every file until you see what piece of code produced the violation. And don’t forget to check for useful tools listed on this site.

0xc0000005 error case 8: Symantec Antivirus

The 0xC0000005 error may appear if you are using Symantec Antivirus. If the the error message mentions SAVRT.SYS, that must the case. All you have to do is update Symantec Antivirus, that removes the 0xC0000005 error.

We hope the information above helped you resolve the 0xC0000005 error.

I'm having the same problem, I've reset Win10, I've reinstalled PS cc 2017 twice in the last week, checked the framework is updated, have tried a direct install and a cc install. My firewalls are set to allow. I've been trying EVERY suggestion that's been made.

It's just getting worse, I only have to open it and it crashes within 30 seconds and freezes my whole laptop. Meaning having to do a hard shutdown of my laptop, then switch it back on and doing a restart straight away to get everything working again. Not to forget with every reinstall having to reinstall my, Nik, Topaz and ImageNomic filters. On the matter of filters, the lookup adjustments filters aren't working properly either. The whole point of paying for Photoshop was to not have to go through this crap.

Get on and fix this Adobe, you're quick enough to take our cash.

go to

control panel/administrative tools/event viewer/windows logs/application find the PS crash, select it and go to right "copy as text" and post it here.

OK, I'm hoping these are the right ones. There's a bunch of these. I uninstalled PS and reinstalled it again today as I couldn't open it at all. Post reinstall stayed open for about 5 mins then crashed again. Thanks for looking at this.

Both support and this forum failed to give a good solution.

I haven't crashed for 3 days.

fix for this crashing: remove active brushes.

Thanks for reporting back. I never heard of brushes causing Photoshop to crash. Very unusual.

When you said "removed active brushes", how exactly did you do that? What brushes were they?

MicksoleeAuthor

I'll leave this here. I hope for future cases, people might try this out. I still haven't crashed.

And I just removed all brushes, not the tools though. I haven't figured out what brush exactly makes me crash.

I put a tilde infront of the spaces map.

Tried using a different tablet.

No trend micro programs installed, atleast of the ones am aware of.

If I would ask someone from the adobe support to help me with these problems are there costs attached to it. Or do I have the rights as paying customer for technician.

You should also update Photoshop. You have 13.0.0.0

I tried using file to update cs6, it didn't update.

Even If this would work, photoshop cc doesn't work and crashes aswell. Like, does it matter that I have 2015? I see no point on paying if this problem percists.

Any help is appreciated, though this is getting frustated.

I got mail saying that I could contact someone with skype. Is this a legit person (Clive Davey.Adobe) or someone trying to hack?

I'll do some digging around...

No one is supposed to be contacting you via Skype. All questions are answered in this forum. Ignore it.

If you have CC 2015, you can open a chat with Adobe Customer Care. They are Adobe Support, we are User to User Support.

Contact Customer Care   They have the resources to look at your Mac and can really help.

Hi Micksolee,

Please create another user account on your windows machine and check the Photoshop version there, also update the graphics drivers from the manufacture website.

Let us know if that helps.
