Alpha Channel [removed]

I love photoshop so much but when I use same steps I have in the past to achieve the same desired result, ??? often happens. I'm trying to create an alpha channel to knock out the background of an image element I'm using in a video edit and for some reason the background is only translucent. Thanks for any help.

What are the steps you used before that don't seem to work now?

Could you include the relevant image?

On a side note, these are public forums, not just for adults.
