Alpha Kanal Einstellung

In order for Photoshop to show the layer as transparent it cannot be on a locked Background layer.

While the transparency is stored in the Alpha channel it is not applied to the image.

Go to the channels panel, choose the alpha channel and click the "Make Selection" button (left circle).

Then go to your Layers panel and click the Create Layer Mask button

Last save this as a file that supports transparency - a tiff will work (with layers) and a .png.

Hi @Jacques Cément it would be helpful to show a screenshot of the entire workspace image with the layers panel showing.

If I now open the image in Photoshop to edit it further, a background ( from the 3D software )  appears this interferes with further processing. I can now delete the background via the alpha channel, but the shadow also disappears.

Which 3D software are you using? And which version of Photoshop? (You didn't say.)

If you are using Photoshop for 3D, it is being removed.

"[Adobe] recommend[s] using Photoshop 22.2 if you continue to need access to Photoshop 3D features. That version will remain accessible to you in the Creative Cloud Desktop application for installation for up to two years from August 2021 (however, the operating system requirements for 22.2 will remain as they were in February 2021 when it was originally released). "

If it's something else, please clarify.

Hi @Jacques Cément I really needed to see the layers panel not the masks. As @jane-e said if your layer is attempting to come in as a 3D smart object layer, there will be issues trying to edit/use that feature as it has been removed.
