Alt + Ctrl + Z Step Backward Problem in Photoshop CC

Hi,

I have recently encountered a problem when trying to use Alt-Ctrl-Z to go a Step Backward. Today, when I opened PS and used the command for Step Backward, the command opened up a yellow outline on my entire image as well as turned my mouse pointer into a rainbow colored pointer. A small box next to the mouse pointer shows RGB and region size in coordinates. The command to Undo/Redo Ctrl+Z works perfectly though.

At first I thought the keyboard shortcut has changed, but after checking the Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus I can confirm the command to go a Step Backward is still Alt+Ctrl+Z. I tried changing it to something different and restoring default but Alt+Ctrl+Z still opens a yellow outline and rainbow mouse pointer.

I am not sure what the yellow outline or rainbow mouse pointer means. I am sure it is another feature in photoshop I have never seen yet and it is somehow opening on the original keyboard shortcut for Step Backward. I tried searching for a solution but I have no idea what the problem is called.

A solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

The fact that the toolbar has an outline in your second image suggests that you have triggered some Windows accessibility feature, or that you are running a 3rd party tool that introspects the applications that you run.

Photoshop does not include functionality for creating a yellow outline on its UI elements.

I had the same problem and indeed it was a 3rd party tool, an application called "vSnapShot". Once I removed it the problem was solved. Thank you very much for the help. Jesper Storm Bachem546992892

I was still not able to solve this problem. I think this is one of photoshops features like maybe a color picking feature or something else.

If anyone recognizes the yellow outline, rainbow mouse pointer and the feature in the bottom left corner of the screenshot, please let me know. I just want to know the name of this so I can try and find a solution by searching.

    thank you

You were right that it was a third party tool.

After spending a couple more hours trying to figure out windows keyboard shortcuts and looking through my programs, I was stumped and just could not figure out what it was.

Then I thought it might be a virus or something affecting my computer so I ran antivirus and nothing was found. I was not convinced so I ran a Malwarebytes full scan and this time a problem was found.

It appears to be an application called ScreenShotPro. It did not appear in my programs list when I searched but a folder did appear when I searched manually in the search box. Once Malwarebytes removed this and restarted, the problem was solved. Now Alt Ctrl Z works perfectly on Photoshop again and it no longer opens a yellow outline.

I hope if anyone runs into a similar problem where a keyboard shortcut suddenly changes or starts an unusual application, I hope this post can be helpful.

Thank you to everyone who helped me try and fix this.

Can you post a screenshot of what exactly are getting so that people can see what you are talking about.

    Thank you for the reply,

Here are a few samples of my problem. The first two shows the yellow box outline when I mouse over. The last image is a phone pic taken to show the rainbow colored mouse pointer which didn't show up in the screenshots.

I tried to reset preferences like gener7 mentioned but it still did this. I restarted my computer too. Please let me know if you recognize what the yellow box and rainbow mouse pointer are. Thank you so much.

If you keep your PC or Laptop in hibernation or on at all times, try a restart.

Another cause could be corrupted preferences. That's the first thing I'd check if something changed without my intervention.
