Any idea how to rid of this horrible grid effect using Halftone filter?

So, I've tried doing this in greyscale, RGB, and even bitmap first but nothing seems to fix this as it seems to be an issue with the effect itself. It's like the effect is 1 pixel off and leaving an area that doesn't quite cross over, making this horrible visible grid pattern

(If you look across the middle of the screenshot you can see the gap that's creating the gap when zoomed in)

This is the halftone pattern that's built into Photoshop

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

I might need to create my own maybe, but I'm not quite sure how to get exactly the same results out of the halftone pattern, where the dots get smaller towards the white areas.
