Area around active text for repositioning has narrowed and clicking outside it commits the text

While working on a text instance, I will frequently drag it around to reposition it precisely as I adjust the size/tracking/etc--I've always been able to do that as long as I was dragging far away enough to not select the text. Now there is only a very narrow area *just* far away enough from text where it switches to the 'move' cursor, but if I select any further away it commits the text, forcing me to once again click into the text and try to find the 'sweet spot' to use the move tool.

Try to hold Ctrl or Cmd when you want to reposition text. For me it is ok how this feature works.

Yes, that is true. Just press Ctrl or Cmd and click on the type layer, then use mouse to move the text.

I am aware of that option but I would rather not have to press and hold down an extra button for something I need to do hundreds/thousands of times per day. It was working fine for two decades with being able to drag from anywhere in document without pressing and holding an extra button the entire time I'm making adjustments.

Are you saying they intentionally removed this functionality? Why would I need to the option to click elsewhere for a text commit when that can be done with a single keystroke, if the trade-off is having to press and hold a key for the thing I am likely to have to multiple times before committing? Never ceases to amaze me how adobe insists on making my workflow harder with every "update"...
