Artboard query for photoshop

I have an image in photoshop that is larger than A4 size. I want to make A4 sized PDFs of sections of the image to test print them. In Illustrator, I would overlay the image with two A4 sized artboards and make PDFs of those. However, when I overlay the image with an A4 sized artboard in PS, the section of the image outside the artboard disappears. I can figure how to make 2 artboards that will overlay different sections of this image?

How can I make A4 sized PDFs of sections of this image for test printing?

Using:  macbookpro, OS 12.5,  photoshop (Beta 25.3)

Hi @mpkadobe,

You can try saving the Photoshop file as a pdf or tif, and bringing it into Illustrator. Then use clipping masks and your artboard method.

Another option could be, if your Photoshop image is flattened... duplicate the layer (this will allow you to move it around if needed). It might be beneficial to then make the background layer white or just delete it. Since you'll need to save two separate files, go to canvas size and crop to a smaller size from one side. Save a COPY of your file. Then, undo the canvas size in your histroy palette. Now, go to "canvas size" (command+option+C on a mac) again, and crop from the other side. Save a separate copy. Instead of "canvas size," you can also use the crop tool and guides/rulers. Adding another layer with a small coloured box and a guide can be useful to mark where you need to cut your image. That should give you your two files.

Hopefully this helps 🙂

Thank you Tina. I think importing into AI is easiest for me since I know the procedure there.
