I need help Asian characters is just showing as BOX with X on it when using text tool

Is not showing under Edit > Preferences > Type

Most often that box with the X means the typeface is not installed.

What is the typeface?
What language are you using?
Are you using copy and paste or typing the text?
Can you show a screenshot with text selected and the Character panel (Window menu)?
