I am drawing a map for our parks trail systems.
For colorblind visitors we would like the trail lines to be different shapes such as:
trail A red stars
trail B blue circles
trail C green squares and so on
Is there any type of tool in photoshop that allows me to do this? At this point I believe I have used a brush and just painted colored lines. Do I have to import a brush type? Can anyone tell me if im on the right track and if so where and how to get these types of brushes?

"Can anyone tell me if im on the right track"
You can create your own brush in Photoshop, but this task would be much easier if you have Illustrator. In Illustrator, you would:
One advantage is that editing one symbol in a series (color, size, etc.) will update all.

Hi
I agree with Jane that Illustrator is best for this. However there is a way in Photoshop.
You can make a shape , put a selection marquee around it and use Edite Define Pattern
Then draw a path with the pen tool and use Shift+F5 and choose to Fill with pattern and select the script "Place along path"
When you press OK you will get a dialogue to adjust size and spacing etc
Pressing OK the pattern will be placed along the path that you drew
The path itself will not be visible in the final image

You may be able to avoid redrawing the paths.
Choose View > Proof Setup and make a note the current setting
From the drop-down Menu, view the map with each of the two Color Blindness options offered. If two of the paths seem to look alike perhaps changing the color of one would be sufficient to solve the problem.
Then return to your original menu setting.
When choosing colors, a good place to start is Google. Key in "Subway maps for color blind people" and similar searches.
(Many years ago, I did some research in this area using the HRR [Hardy, Rand, Ritler] Pseudoisochromatic plate series. After a year of random unscientific testing, one of the conclusions I felt confident to draw is that a man should never, ever, argue about color with his wife.)

A good reminder that there is always an alternative way to reach and end point 🙂

you can also create a brush in PS and apply is a a stroke.
But as everyone says here you can do it best in AI.
