Attempting to select top three tool switches applications...,

I'm running ver. 25.1.0 under Sonoma 14.1 on a 13" 2020 MacBook Pro. If I attempt to select any of the top three tools in the default configuration of the toolbar, I get switched to either another application if I have one open (Safari, Photo Mechanic, etc) or to the Finder if I don't. In short, I cannot access the lasso, the marquee tool or the move tool. None of the other tools display this annoying quirk.

Any ideas?

Update macOS Sonoma to 14.1.1 where this issue has been fixed.

Apple>System Settings>>General>Software Update
