Auto recovery resetting or turning off

I have been running into Photoshop freezing more often than usual. Several times I have lost lengthy edits, each time I check auto-recovery and it is disabled, then I turn it back on. Are updates disabling it? I have not turned it off, but when I actually need it, it does not work.

@alenepierro auto recovery only works if Photoshop crashes with a crash report window. Any other situation - computer crash (not PS specifically), power disruption, force-quit by user does not activate the recover file prototcol.

If you are doing lengthy edits and not saving intermittently, PS may be running out of scratch disk space for the temp file needed for recovery.
