Question

Automatic and Unwanted Shape Transformation

Okay, so I'm working on a big project that's supposed to be due in a few days... and have just now encountered this problem.

See, I create shapes on my canvas, and I want to add gradient colors to them afterwards. But when I select a shape and then attempt to add a gradient in, for SOME STRANGE UNEXPLAINED REASON, the shape automatically transforms and rotates and/or scales on its own! I did not click the transformation tools or anything like that. I simply wanna add gradient to the shape, and the shape just rotates and/or scales on its own, automatically. Same thing happens to the other shapes!

Shapes are Fill layers with a vector layer mask.  changing a shape layer fill to a gradient fill should not change the layer bounds or vector layer mask or distort the vector layer mask path.  You can not add a gradient to a shape layer.  You can  changed a shape layer fill to a gradient fill and add a gradient overlay layer style  effect.   This will will not change the shape or layer size or rotate the layer.  You did something other then change a shape layer's  fill or add a gradient overlay layer style effect. What did you actually do to add a gradient to a Photoshop shape layer. That is not someting you can do in Photoshop.

I simply wanna add gradient to the shape, and the shape just rotates and/or scales on its own, automatically.

@JJMack I can apply a gradient fill to a shape on a layer without it rotating or scaling on its own automatically. I think that's all they are trying to do and not adding a gradient to both the layer and the shape?

@JIMENOPOLIX Sounds wild for sure. Please give us more details. What version of Photoshop? What OS? What have you done so far to try to fix the problem? Closing and restarting PS? Checking your GPU settings? Reset preferences? Restarted your computer? Let us know more and we'll try to help you.

Okay, so I thought it just needed an update, so I went ahead and updated the version I'm using (I had the one from May). But when I opened it up and tried the shape gradient thing again, the same issue occured. Nothing has changed.

I can think of ONE solution to try, but it will require much more work for me (simply adding shading on different layers to achieve a gradient look).

And this issue occured just last night.
