Automatically copy background layer?

I've been looking around, does anybody know if there is a setting in PS (or some trick) that will automatically copy your background layer when you open a new file? I mean, 9 times out of 10 isn't it the first thing we all do anyway?

    You can record an action, then using the Script Events Manager you can automatically play the action when a file is opened.

    Not really as common as you would think. But the easiest way is to just hit CMD+J (on a Mac), Cntrl+J on a PC as soon as you are in there.
