Background Color Replicated

I have a 4 page scan of a handwritten letter and the background color on all are different. How can I ensure the background is the same on all?

I have tried selecting the background color of the first page and made it the foreground. Using the magic want to select the background color of the next page, will allow me to make the change but the background of the letters will require painstaking selections. Is there an easier way?

Try the Image > Adjustments > Match Color command.

If all you have on the images is a background color and the text, you should be able to use the command without making a selection.

Open two images. With the image active that you want to change, choose Image > Adjustments > Match Color.

In the Match Color dialog box that appears, for Source choose the file you want to match.

First I'm assuming the writing is black or dark and the paper is darker than white but still light.

You can create a new layer above the background layer, fill it with a lightish color (beige, warm white etc.) then set the blend mode to multiply.

This should yield an even color tone without affecting the writing.

If your issue is more of a tonal density difference you can use a new layer, fill with 50% gray and set the blend mode to overlay. Then use the dodge tool to lighten any dark areas of the paper. In the options set to Highlights and use a low exposure amount.

If you need to darken the writing after all that you can use a curves adjustment layer to deepen the shadows (writing)
