Batch change Tiff options

I have quite a  number of tiff files that are saved with the LZW option and where the transparency option is not selected. I would like to use the batch processor to fix this, but cannot figure out how to create an action that saves the files with their current names (preferably in the current place, but if that is not possible, saving in a subfolder would be fine).

Is it possible to do this?

If you have recorded a filename in the action, then you need to check the Override Action "Save As" Commands checkbox so that each new file doesn't use the recorded name overwriting each new file with the same name.

Adobe detail the Batch options here:

Fantastic! I will try this next time - seems to be what I needed (the other solution proposed also worked, but your solution is more "automatic"). Many thanks!

Yes, the Batch command can be tricky. I remembered the info below from an old Real World Photoshop CS3 book by Bruce Fraser, and I just tested it to make sure it still works. There are two specific things you want to do:

1. When recording the action, and you do the Save As command, the only things you want to change are the folder location, and enabling the Save Transparency option. Do not touch the filename field! This will record the transparency change, without recording any filename change.

2. When running the Batch command, the only things you want to change are the source folder, and the destination folder. Don’t enable any other options.

When I set it up as shown, I got a destination folder of LZW TIFFs with transparency on (it’s transparent when placed over something else in InDesign), and no filename changes.

this did the trick! The error I had made previously was clickin in the name box :). This saved me soooo much time - now 140 files as fixed (and I have turned off the automatic conversion to LZW that windows like to do and which makes it impossible for InDesign to recognise the transparency).

Many thanks!

Hi @Chris201Chris why dont you just use File>Scripts>Image Processor? It has a TIF option that you can disable LZW with.

True, I forgot that I had tried that before. I got stuck with wanting transparency as well as I cannot find this as an option.

If your TIFs contain layers and transparency then it should save with that in tact. I verified that my files with transparency and layers saved out as such using the processor. You can always test as well with a small subset of files.
