Batch JPEG processing running super slow

Community Beginner ,

I've have an action to batch process to shrink JPEGs (from larger JPEGs or RAW files) for years. It is usually quite fast - even when processing RAW - but today it's slowed to a crawl. It's taking upwards of 3 hours to process 300 files (used to take closer to 5 minutes for the same amount).

I've updated my OS, updated the recommended performance settings in my Photoshop from a previous post, cleared my hard drive to double the space available, my CC is up to date and I've rebooted my computer several times. I've even recorded a new action to see if that helps but they are both still running equally slow.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? At this rate I'll never finish any of the work I have due.

Thanks so much for the reply! I am meeting all the minimum requirements, it seems, so still puzzling.

I am Windows user. My friend had similar problem, everything in order: 16GB RAM, Radeon RX 580 and plenty of room on hard drive but computer was running slow. It ended up in Mac service to replace OS, that was their suggestion. Still does not work as expected. I asked what was problem? No answer from my friend, they didn't told her details.

I actually unchecked it before I saw this and then reduced my History States to 2. Now everything is moving smoothly again so it was one or the other or both!

Sounds like you're running out of scratch disk space. How much free space do you have?
