Best practices for converting images from RGB to CMYK

Hi! A client has sent me RGB images for a printed book. I'm wondering if Image> Mode > CMYK results in the highest quality or if there is another (better?) way to do this. Also, is there a way to convert the over 200 images as a batch action?

You should definitely use Edit > Convert to Profile instead, and use the correct CMYK profile for your press in the Destination Space. Which one, it depends on who prints the job.

To batch process it, record this into an Action and use File > Automation > Batch.

Thanks SO much. I had seen that suggestion elsewhere (and why I asked). I just requested profile settings from the vendor printing the job. 🙂

I would leave them in RGB (ensuring they have the correct RGB profile) place them into InDesign for the book layout and let InDesign handle the conversion to CMYK when producing a print ready PDF.  At that point you will need to know the specific CMYK profile required by the printing press.

@Fern157F As has been mentioned here it's vital that you use the correct CMYK ICC profile for the intended printing process. there is no "generic" CMYK - press processes differ significantly.
