Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics 3.90 GHz
RAM memory: 16gb
ssd: 500gb
HD: 500GB

When I run photoshop, my computer is using 90% of the RAM, is this normal?

About the filters I only mentioned because I thought there would be some old version would be well optimized

Yes, its usually normal, it depends on many factors. Just checking my system, Ryzen 5 5600G too what does not really matter. My system is consuming 14,8GB at the moment with Photoshop and Google Chrome + Notepad running in the background. Only Windows will eat app. 5 GB of memory.

You can try an older version of Photoshop (Neural Filters were added starting with the 2021 version), but chances are, because they were new, Neural Filters in the 2021 or 2022 version of Photoshop might not be any better optimized than they are today.

The Adobe Creative Cloud app lets you install the last two major versions of Photoshop, so you can certainly try installing the previous version and see if it runs Neural Filters better than the current version on your computer. But in that older version of Photoshop, the Neural Filters are different and less up to date, so they might not actually be better optimized.

The important thing about Neural Filters is that they require more resources than older software because they use AI/machine learning. I recently tested one Neural Filter feature that takes 7 seconds on my current computer, and it takes over 30 seconds on my 5-year-old computer. The current computer has double the performance cores, a much more powerful GPU, and dedicated machine learning hardware on the SoC. The older computer, lacking all of that, is several times slower with Neural Filters.

In other words, this is less a matter of finding an older version of Photoshop that’s better optimized for Neural Filters on older hardware, it’s more about the opposite: optimizing hardware for machine learning features in current software from any company. All AI-based image editing software has relatively high system requirements. Yes, it costs a lot of money to upgrade a computer. But the bottom line is, the reason Neural Filters and many other AI solutions from other companies did not exist several years ago, is because back then the hardware to do it quickly was simply not available in personal computers. AI software is now more common only because the right hardware for it started becoming widely available only recently.

About the neural filters now that you mentioned it makes a lot of sense for the new versions to be more optimized, I'll try to lower the photoshop settings more to see if I solve his memory usage problem
