Best way to transfer layered file to another size canvas

What is the best way to transfer layered file to another size canvas.

I am a novice in PS and have an old version but would like to use the same elements I have in one sized file to a larger sized canvas.

Is there a way other than have to recreate every element?

I have Win 10 Pro 21H1

Thanks

oz

If you mean take multiple layers to another existing Photoshop document while preserving their relationship to each other, one safe/easy way is to put all of those layers into the same layer group (folder). Either select the layers and then choose Layer > Group Layers; or in the Layers panel, drag the layers into a layer group created in advance. The last step is just drag that one folder, and drop it in the other document. Remember that if you want it to drop at the exact center of the other document, hold down Shift when you drop it.

You can also simply select multiple layers and drag them to the other document, but I find it’s too easy to drop a layer or two. It’s a lot easier to just drag one group with a bunch of layers in it.

If you don’t like to drag and drop, you can use copy and paste. You can select layers or layer groups in the Layers panel, choose Edit > Copy, switch to the other document, and choose Edit > Paste.

You could Image > Duplicate, followed by Image > Canvas Size.

Hi @ozstar

  1. Which version of Photoshop are you using?
  2. Do the layers as a whole have to be fitted/transformed into the new larger file?
  3. Or does the size remain the same and the layers should only be inserted, for example, in the middle of the new file?
