Question

Black is not black

Having trouble with latest version of photoshop. Got no black, black is showing as a greeny colour and other colours are different to what other programmes show for same colours.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled etc but no change.

When displaying colors, Photoshop uses data from the color profile file associated with the monitor in the operating system settings. Other applications may not have a color management system and display images on the screen without regard to the color profile.

It appears that the color profile associated with the monitor is corrupted or assigned incorrectly. Check out this thread:

Yes, that's a defective monitor profile. Most applications won't use the profile, so they are unaffected (but never entirely accurate either).

The proper fix for this is to use a calibrator to make a new profile - but if you don't have one, use sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for now. If your monitor is a wide gamut model, use Adobe RGB instead.

This won't be absolutely correct, but usually close enough for non-critical work.

Here's where you do it. Relaunch Photoshop when done; it loads the profile at application startup:

(edit - post sequence gets all jumbled with this threaded forum layout. Jazz-y posted ahead of me -)
