Photoshop program opens fine but intermittently when i open a jpg (where i can see the preview image) i get a black screen.  see below .  when i go to crop tool and switch form H to Vertical or vice versa the image appears. i believe i recently updated camera raw also. but these are jpgs already processed, not RAW images anyway.   thoughts please....

More likely the  GPU has the problems with the latest version of PS, not the other way around. More and more functionality is being offloaded to GPU processing in newer releases.  This is why Adobe allows GPU to be disabled.

Again: If disabling GPU fixes the issue, it's a GPU bug and you need to speak to the manufacturer of said GPU.

First, try disabling GPU in the Preferences (Performance tab). Any better?
You can try this too: in Preferences>Technology Previews, check the box 'Deactivate Native Canvas' and uncheck 'Enable Native Canvas Rulers' options, then restart Photoshop. Does this work?
If not, recalibrate and build a new ICC display profile, the old one might be corrupted.
If you are using software/hardware for this task, be sure the software is set to build a matrix not LUT profile, Version 2 not Version 4 profile.

If turning OFF GPU works, it's a GPU bug and you need to contact the manufacturer or find out if there's an updated driver for it. On the Mac, that's part of the OS update(s) so if this is the latest OS version, you may need to roll back a release.

hi adobe says the GPU is outdated.. didn't have any issues until the latest update of PS   also it says IT IS COMPATIBLE though under the help setting.  i'll check with MFG. is there any harm to unchecking the GPU.? does it cause other issues? i am still testing .since the problem was intermittent.  as for the profiles, etc sorry not sure at all what you are referring to  thanks for responding.

Hi!
Did you have this problem in 23.3?
If you go to Preferences >Performance, then click Advanced Settings, and uncheck "GPU Compositing" then restart Photoshop. Does the problem still persist?
